Did you know that the Mosquitoes family has about 3000 species? Fortunately, not all are found in our latitudes and not all of them are “bloodthirsty.” Anxiety is caused to our summer resident by the common mosquito (mosquito-pusher) – under these names there is a whole group of blood-sucking insects.
Like butterflies, they feed on the nectar of plants and show no interest to us. But females need more blood to continue the race, they annoy the person and warm-blooded animals. The female during a bite injects weakening saliva so that the victim does not feel pain at the site of the bite, to which our skin reacts with itching or even with allergies.
In addition, there is a danger of infections such as encephalitis, meningitis, etc. For example, in the summer of 2007, 54 people in the Volgograd region became ill with West Nile fever, which affects the lymphatic system and the lining of the brain. Killed two people. The cause of the disease became infected mosquitoes. Even in Great Britain, where, unlike in our country, mosquitoes practically do not reproduce under normal conditions, due to the warming of the climate in recent years, an incredible number of them are recorded. Mosquitoes are getting bigger, they mutate, new species appear.
How to protect yourself from all this? Run into the house and close the windows? Imagine: a summer evening, the heat subsides, the hubbub is subsiding, it’s time to get in the gazebo, call friends or neighbors, and … instead of silence – a humming, trying to bite the cloud. Admit that at least once had to roll a long-awaited picnic because of the “raid” of these crumbs. The neighbor joked once: “If you tear off the mosquito’s proboscis and hummer, he will fly in impotent hatred silently – hungry and angry …”
As soon as a man struggled with a mosquito. He came up with a lot of measures: draining of swamps, chemical treatment of places where insects prefer to lay eggs. Even bacteria that eat mosquito larvae have been found. But mostly it is effective against urban populations. And our summer resident what to do?
Do not sit well, smeared from head to foot with repellent. Even something good in the body with food will fall, and for the skin is not too useful. These are the same irritations and allergic reactions. In addition, sometimes mosquito killers contain organochlorine compounds that can accumulate in human and animal tissues. The use of more gentle ultrasonic mosquito repellents often affects domestic animals, in addition, the effectiveness of such devices decreases with the growth of mosquitoes, not all insects are susceptible to such effects.
However, there is a way out – we recommend to buy best mosquito trap, using the natural principle of imitating the luring of insects, their isolation and destruction.
What man attracts stinging insects? First of all with your breath. Carbon dioxide, moisture and heat released during exhalation, tell the mosquito female about the presence of “warm” food in this place. The female goes there. In their work, traps mimic human breathing, emitting carbon dioxide. For more effective attraction of insects in some models, attractants are used – similar to the smell of human skin substances.
For example, octenol (Octenol) is a natural by-product that is released during the life of plants and some animals such as oxen and cows that eat large amounts of plant food.
Such a “deception” allows you to attract mosquitoes (and other bloodsuckers like midges, midges, gadflies, biting midges, black flies, sand flies, etc.) that will fly to the insect killer themselves. Traps of this type are selective, they do not act on bees, moths, bumblebees and other beneficial insects.
Many models provide for the absorption of insects that have flown to the system, like a vacuum cleaner, inside the device, where they are destroyed (by voltage, dehydration, etc.)
The work of traps starts instantly, so you can count on getting a momentary cumulative effect. A few days are enough to significantly reduce the number of mosquitoes, mosquitoes and blackflies. The most noticeable results are achieved after 4–6 weeks.
In order to achieve the best result, it is very important to place the installation correctly in order to intercept the mosquitoes before they get to you. The trap should be placed as close as possible to the breeding site of mosquitoes (standing water, hedge, garden …) and as far as possible from the human territory (patio, terrace …).
It is desirable that the trap was removed from the “comfort zone” at least a few meters. Then the “bloodthirsty” creatures will be drawn to the trap, and not to you. It is preferable to arrange the installation on the windward side of the habitat of insects (i.e., from the side from which the wind blows towards them). Mosquitoes fly against the wind in search of “blood food”. After the female mosquito bites a person, its weight doubles, and it flies already in the wind to the place where it spends most of its time (leaves of trees, bushes).
You need to place the trap in open space, and not in tall grass or plants. Because carbon dioxide CO2 is heavier than air, so it spreads close to the ground. Mosquitoes will follow against the spread of a jet of carbon dioxide towards the installation. Tall grass will interfere with the flow of carbon dioxide, and mosquitoes will detect you rather than a trap.
Another trick – put the installation in the shadows. Mosquitoes do not tolerate direct sunlight. Usually they fly out of their hiding places as soon as the sun sets.
